Lift servicing and repairs tradespeople train and are highly knowledgeable in assembling, adjusting, installing, maintaining and repairing hydraulic and electric lifts as well as escalators and related components.
Lift mechanics are responsible for diagnosing errors on lift mechanisms and repairing all faults to bring the equipment to proper working standards. A Lift servicing and repairs tradesperson is responsible for installing and repairing brake systems, carrying out regular maintenance and fixing faulty wiring and cabling.
The tradesperson will install counterweights, cables, motor foundations, pumps, escalator drives, elevator cars, doors, control panels and entrance doors.
The entry requirement for lift servicing and repair/Lift mechanic is an AQF Certificate III or higher qualification. Registration or licensing is required.

Lift servicing and repairing tasks may include:
- Studies and understands detailed plans and drawings for lift installation
- Installs guides and verifies alignment
- Installs new or repairs existing lift brake systems
- Diagnoses and repairs all faults relating to lifts
- Installs control and safety devices
- Conducts regular maintenance by schedule of lifts and components
- Connects lift wiring
